Noreast Electronics Environmental Policy

Noreast Electronics is committed to the manufacture of environmentally-friendly products and is accomplishing this in part through the elimination of lead and other hazardous substances in its manufacturing processes and products. This is in compliance with the European Union's Rol-IS and WEEE directives, other international regulations, and customer's `Green Procurement' guidelines.

Elimination of Banned Substances and Lead-free Compliance

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union created a program that standardizes the restriction and use of hazardous substances within the EU while contributing to the protection of human health and the environment. This directive is called The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Rol-1S) Directive 2002/95/EC. A companion directive is called Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC. Midcom is committed to eliminating the use of the hazardous substances listed in the Rol IS directive and will do so well ahead of the 1 July 2006 deadline. The restricted hazardous substances listed are lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr VI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

Lead-free Implementation

Noreast Electronics is transitioning to lead-free products according to specific customer requests while continuing to provide lead-based products for those customers that are not lead-free. Noreast expects that throughout the balance of 2005 a significant portion of products will become lead-free, although customers that require lead base solder (military, avionics,etc..) will not see any changes.

Lead-free identification

Noreast Electronics will identify its lead free products with LF at the end of each of its part numbers or date code. All appropriate documentation will be issued prior to the first shipment.
